Nyasa Mobile rolls out September 2023

A third mobile network operator, Nyasa Mobile Networks, is expected to roll out in the country in the third quarters of 2023,

Nyasa Mobile Networks Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jason Bowler disclosed this Wednesday during a panel discussion on the Macra Open Day which was held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

He said the Mobile Network provider has invested over $120 million in the past two years in setting up its infrastructures.

“We started to acquire license in July 2019 and we able to get our operating license 18 months later. The process is sting and hard but we know that licenses should not be given on silver platter hence the applicant should able to me the set guidelines,” he said.

He said the biggest challenge in the process of setting up the mobile networks has been finances and installation of equipment.

Bowler added that telecommunication industry require capital investment hence the need to partner with various stakeholders in the industry in order to provide quality communication services.

He said the issue of affordability on the operating cost of the network remains key and accessibility to many customers remains a challenge in the country.

He said Malawi is a relative small economy with high population and for past 25 years two mobile networks operators TNM and Airtel have dominated the market.

He said the two service providers have been doing well by improving the provision of better networks and services.

Airtel Malawi CEO Charles Kamoto said entry of a new firm in the market is exciting.

He said the land of the third mobile operator brings another dimension when issues of data prices are being viewed to be high with a call to have them reduced.
